Two goals from Shaun Bartlett helped to earn ten-man Charlton Athletic their first win of the season as Wolves baptism of fire in the Premiership continued at Molineux.

Wolves had been hammered 5-1 in their first ever Premiership match at Blackburn Rovers and their fate against Charlton was sealed after 33 minutes when Charlton raced into a 4-0 lead.

Jason Euell and Claus Jensen were on target along with Bartlett in the first half as Charlton bounced back in style from last weekend's 3-0 home defeat at the hands of Manchester City.

The only black note for Charlton was the dismissal of their impressive midfielder, Scott Parker, was saw red for a challenge on Kevin Cooper 19 minutes from time.

Charlton boss Alan Curbishley was delighted with the win, but not the red card and he said: "Losing to Manchester City really hurt us.

"So to beat Wolves is a great result. It was fantastic to score early on and we were determined to bounce back."Charlton will appeal against Parker's dismissal if video evidence shows he was hard done by.

Curbishley added: "You don't expect to have a player sent off when you are winning 4-0.

"If we have got a defence then hopefully the referee will look at it. Scott is a great player for us."Wolves manager Dave Jones, who takes his side to Old Trafford to face Manchester United on Wednesday, has warned his players they need to learn quickly what life is all about in the top-flight.

Jones said: "I am very angry and disappointed with everything we have done. The players need to be better. We need to be brighter and sharper.

"We didn't do ourselves justice and I include myself in that because I am in the dressing room.

"We conceded some poor goals and we can't afford to do that in the Premiership."Wolves hit the slippery slope after just three minutes following a weak back pass from Colin Cameron.

Cameron's header was intercepted by Euell who slid the ball past Michael Oakes, making his first appearance since September as a replacement for back injury victim Matt Murray, from close range.

Wolves never recovered from that setback and Jensen increased Charlton's advantage in the 15th minute when the Dane curled home a free-kick from 20 yards after Bartlett had been fouled by Jody Craddock.

The impressive Parker then turned provider to create both of Bartlett's goal. Parker split the Wolves defence with a pin-point pass after 25 minutes allowing Bartlett to rifle a low drive beyond Oakes.

Eight minutes later, Parker was released by Euell and then fed another pass into the feet of Bartlett who beat Oakes at his near post.

Wolves only really threatened once, on the stroke of half time, when skipper Paul Ince saw his header from Lee Naylor's free-kick spectacularly saved by Dean Kiely.

Charlton used the second-half to introduce new signings, Paolo Di Canio and on-loan Carlton Cole.

But their win was marred to a certain extent by the dismissal of Parker. Cooper was forced off leaving Wolves to play the final 19 minutes with ten men as well as they had already used their three substitutes.
