Match Report - Wrexham 1-0 Wolves

Last updated : 14 July 2008 By Gary Brookhouse

First Half Team:

Hennessey, Foley, D. Ward, Stearman, R. Edwards, Kightly, D. Edwards, Sheilis, S. Ward, Ebanks-Blake and Keogh.

Wolves started the first half at a slow pace, not really troubling Wrexham throughout the first half. Wolves passed the ball around the pitch without pushing forward for a goal, and when we got near their goal we hardly troubled their keeper.

Whereas Wrexham, who wanted to win this game and with some poor passes by Wolves intercepted by Wrexham. This allowed them the chance of pushing forward and breaking down the wings and sometimes upfront.

Overall in the first half, with both teams not really having any shots on target both teams didn't deserve to win the game and it had 0-0 written all over the match.

First half result: Wrexham 0-0 Wolves

Second Half Team:

Ikeme, Little, Craddock, N. Collins, Elokobi, Gray, Dave Jones, Davies, Jarvis, Elliott and Hughes

Wolves started the second half with a different team to the first half, but played allot better than the first half. Whereas Wrexham also had a different team second half, but they was playing like they did in the first half.

I can't remember who gave away the free kick to Wrexham, but it was probably Neil Collins. Anyway Wrexham had a free kick on the edge of the area, but I don't feel like the wall was positioned properly for Wolves and Ikeme could of done better to save the shot. All in all the free kick was taken well by Wrexham and it looked a great goal, with claps from the away end applauding the well taken shot.

Wolves kept the ball allot better than they did in the first half, managing to play the ball down the wings, but with no one getting on the end of the crosses.

In the last 15 minutes Wolves piled on the pressure and was actually getting a few shots on target, but nothing close to even scoring a goal.

Second half result: Wrexham 1-0 Wolves

Attendance: 2,750 (660 was Wolves Fans)

Mick Told the official website that "From our point of view it was just a runout,"

"I hate pre-season games, they're just a means to an end to get fit for the start.

"We all get upset when we don't win and I'm sat upstairs out of the way because I don't want to be down in the dugout jumping and shouting.

"We've not been back two weeks and it's a fitness exercise with some good and some not so good and that's only to be expected.

"The players worked hard again yesterday and while I don't like getting beat it's not the be-all and end-all at this stage."

On Baynes's impressive free kick Mick added: "Wrexham's goal was awesome, a fabulous strike.

"Will I see a better one than that this season? Not in our goal I hope!"

Sam Vokes was withdrawn from the squad yesterday due to a minor ankle injury but like Karl Henry, who didn't travel due to a slight heel problem, it was purely precautionary.

"Sam just landed awkwardly yesterday and rocked his ankle," said Mick.

"There was no way I was going to play him in a game like this unless I thought he was o-k."
