Well Wolves once again find themselves back in the relegation places after wins for Leicester and Blackburn respectively.
Leicester hammered a once again, off colour, Man City and then Blackburn edged out Everton last night.
Everton themselves now join us in the bottom three along with the managerless Leeds.
So what can we read into the latest round of results and personnel changes?
For me, Leeds look like a team in a never-ending downward spiral. Whoever, replaces Peter Reid is going to have an immense task on their hands to keep Leeds out of Division 1. Sure they’ve got some skilful players but too many of the loan players seem to be rolling over when the going gets tough. If someone can get Mark Viduka back on track that will certainly help but they’re in real trouble and their own fans know it. The only drawback for us is that we don’t get a chance to potentially get three points until December 28th by which time they might be a different proposition.
We do though face Everton in the next league fixture. Dave Jones was at Ewood Park to see what they had to offer and seeing it on live TV myself there didn’t seem a great deal to fear in the play from the Toffees.
Although it will probably turn out to be a false position for Everton, now is as good a time as any to go to Goodison Park.
After Everton, we are then only one more game from facing a struggling Spurs at White Hart Lane before the short trip across Handsworth to face Villa.
So three of the next four games, although away, present us with a real opportunity to get some points in the run up to Christmas.
Leicester have been the surprise package. Since our fabulous comeback they’ve picked themselves up and taken six points from six. The fact they’ve scored 19 league goals augers badly for us as teams that can score always have a good chance.
Bolton are used to scrapping and have wasted no time in getting points where they need to.
Boro look to be restoring parity so Spurs and Villa are definite targets. Blackburn still possess the quality to not be considered as a real relegation candidate.
With Wolves seeming to have found a way to scrap with teams on even terms, with the exception of the top three, no match should now be feared.
If we can find a creative formula that we’ve been lacking in spells then there is real cause for optimism that there are three teams less equipped or less prepared for a dogfight.
However, we need to capitalise fully when teams are out of form when we ourselves are being resilient and are able to come back when falling behind.
Everton won’t be a pretty game but it’s already another benchmark as to how far we’ve come to date.
