Toughest test yet at Leicester

Last updated : 27 September 2002 By Dave Burgess

Scenario:

Wolves are in 9th position with a game in hand on most teams above them and Leicester an impressive 2nd.

What about the opposition?

Well Leicester have won 6 successive home games and seem to have settled into the new stadium very nicely. Everyone tipped all three relegated teams to suffer but Leicester seem to have found their feet very quickly in the Nationwide.

The dispute with Dennis Wise is now resolved and they have the majority of their squad from the Premiership last season who have the sort of experience required at this level to do well.

Brain Deane, always a foe of Wolves defenders, is still scoring goals for fun at the age of 34 and lines up alongside the foil of perfect Paul Dickov.

At the back they have two brick houses of Elliott and Taggart though hopefully the latter is injured.

Oh and they have the ‘what’s he doing in the Nationwide’ talent of Izzet in midfield.

Daunting..

Soon to follow:

Rotherham away in the Worthington Cup then Sheffield United at home. Never seen Wolves beat the Blades.

Score Prediction:

This is as tough as it gets. OK we won well against Preston but there were still the sort of holes appearing from time to time that a team like Leicester will be more ruthless with.

Expect a physical battle and plenty of yellow (or even a red) cards as the battle for 3 points unfolds.

I hope we can nick a point if we play as well as we did against Preston.

I’ll be there wearing my lucky, as yet unbeaten, T-shirt so luck is on our side!

Come on the Wolves!
