Scenario:
Wolves have won only 1 of their last 5 league games and are slipping down the table. A win tonight is a must to help get the league form back on track.
Rotherham have surprised everyone since their 6-0 opening day win at Millwall. They lie in 5th place and are unbeaten at home.
What about the opposition?
Well Rotherham are always an unfancied side, one tipped for relegation but they have surprised everyone. This time last season they had just 4 points from 10 games so to now have 18 from the opening 11 is a remarkable improvement.
At Millmoor they don’t give much away either. A total of 6 goals have been scored in the 5 home league fixtures producing 2 wins and three draws.
They also beat Carlisle 3-1 in the first round of the Worthington Cup at home so Wolves will have to become the first team to win there this season if they are to progress.
We are lucky, possibly, as the Rotherham website lists the possibility of key players (Byfield top scorer with 7) being out through injury for the fixture.
Soon to follow:
Sheffield United.
Distinct possibility that the Portsmouth game the following week will be postponed due to international call-ups. This will help us to get back Cameron and Kennedy a.s.a.p.
In fact I’d be in favour of a mid-season break now until the Irish wing wizard is fully fit again.
Score Prediction:
Well Jones is talking of ‘resting’ players but still fielding a team capable of helping us progress to the next round. However, considering we can’t field a team capable of winning a league match this seems like a contradiction.
There could be some surprise inclusions, as we saw at Swansea, and I have to admit we go there as underdogs.
I don’t see us winning after the Leicester game, as the Rotherham defence seems to be as mean as Leicester’s and we had no idea how to unlock that one.
The end of the cup run – we can ‘concentrate on the league’ from 9.45pm onwards.
However, we live in hope…
Come on the Wolves!
