No shame in defeat to league leaders.

4 enforced changes before meeting the runaway leaders isn’t ideal, but the Wolves squad members did their best, but it wasn’t to be.

Surprise starting places for Edworthy, Clyde and Pollet meant the defence had only one regular, Irwin, switched to right back for the game.

As well, a rare start for Deano in for Blake.

Not surprising then that Wolves lacked the cohesion and fluency to break down the league leaders.

In truth, even with a fit first-choice 11, it was a difficult fixture.

The bonuses come from the other results involving teams around us.

Forest losing at Brighton and Sheffield United only getting a point at our next opponents, Stoke. Ipswich and Norwich have closed the gap, but there are more teams to be caught now.

However, of more concern is that with only 9 games to go we seem to be once again suffering a bad spate of injuries.

The injury to Kennedy last season, at home to
Grimsby, proved to be a turning point in the run that ended in tears.

This season it could be the loss of George Ndah, as Blake isn’t back in the groove, and we don’t seem to create the chances we did when George ran at the opposition.

As well, I’ve detected signs of exhaustion in the likes of Cameron.

Add to this that Irwin and
Ince have played far more games than in recent seasons, and I can see us running out of steam before May 4th.

Again, there is very little time to prepare before the next fixture is on us, this Tuesday.

There is a bit of respite with the
Grimsby game almost certain to be postponed on March 29th, but perhaps our season will depend on the magic worked by the physio team rather than the coaching staff.

It’s a long hard season and it doesn’t let up when you are chasing for success.

Let’s just hope the lads can hang in there.
