Well I suppose it would have been too much to expect Jo Lescott to go straight into the heart of the defence in his first match at England Under-21 level.
Instead David Platt has gone for the Premiership experience of Bramble and Barry, skippering the side, at the heart of the defence.
It remains to be seen whether Jo will be blooded.
Usually a defensive substitution is only really required in the case of injury. Even then there is Samuel, also of Villa, as a potential central defensive alternative.
Interesting to note that Russell Howarth, the keeper we had on trial from York, is also selected. Seems that he is still at this time with York City and has not as yet moved up to a club in a higher division.
Fingers crossed that Jo comes back from the trip having enjoyed the involvement and that other Premiership players don't try and 'tap him up' for a move to their respective club in the future.
Good luck Jo.
