Half-season report.

Last updated : 18 December 2002 By Dave Burgess

Well after 22 games so far this season we can take stock of our efforts to date and see what is required in the remaining 24 games.

Wolves currently lie in 7th place with a record of:

Won 10

Drawn 6

Lost 6

Goals For 39

Goals Against 23

Points 36

Goal Difference +16

Last season it was a record of:

Won 12

Drawn 6

Lost 4

Goals For 34

Goals Against 17

Points 42

Goal Difference +17

The differences are just two wins that this season are two defeats.

Considering the number of injuries, lack of form and bedding in of new professionals at the club these statistics put a positive slant on things when we are down after the weekend defeat by Coventry.

We all know that it was Wolves tremendous post-Xmas form that carried us into the distance and there is no reason to believe that we cannot repeat this feat.

If we can keep key players fit (Ince, Kennedy, Cameron, Lescott) and get Blakey and Deano back and firing on all cylinders then we have every chance of closing the gap on Leicester and who knows, even Portsmouth.

Now that the defence is sorted out as a solid unit then if we can get a ‘regular’ goalscorer in the forward positions then the foundations are there to get into the top four positions.

From what I’ve seen the top two are the only teams who have impressed me.

Those in similar positions to ourselves haven’t offered the sort of form or credentials to suggest they have anything better to offer.

It seems however, that Wolves may well have to settle for the dreaded play-offs once again as Portsmouth are running away with things and the hope that Leciester would have to sell to survive seems remote now the take-over has been accepted.

It will take a Wolves-style collapse from one of these front-runners to let any of the chasing pack into the automatic places.

However, we can live in hope.

Come on the Wolves!
