The 32-year-old has left his position at FC Copenhagen to join the Molineux club and work with Solbakken and his assistant Terry Connor as they plot an immediate return to the Barclays Premier League.
"We have previously stated that Stale was going to be bringing in a coach to supplement our backroom staff and are delighted to welcome Johan to the club," chief executive Jez Moxey told the club's official website, www.wolves.co.uk
"He is a young coach with an impressive pedigree who is highly thought of in Denmark following his work with Copenhagen, and will add fresh ideas and approach to the qualities already in place with our existing backroom staff."
Solbakken added: "Johan was the coach I wanted to come and work with me at Wolves.
"He is the youngest coach ever to achieve the highest coaching qualification in Denmark and he has many different qualities to offer."
