McCarthy's side slipped into the bottom two with a 2-0 defeat at Wigan on Saturday and have now not won in the league since the 2-1 opening day victory over Stoke.
The Wolves boss, who both played and managed the Republic of Ireland, now hopes the change of scenery in the international break will do his players the world of good.
He hopes they return to Molineux with a freshness needed to beat West Ham in the bottom-of-the-table clash on October 16.
He told the club's official website: "We've got about 12 going away and concentrating on their individual country's games. We don't see them back until the Thursday before West Ham.
"But I've been away on international duty and it is a chance to get away from the pressures of the club and any negativity and come back with a freshness which will benefit us when we play West Ham.
"We just need to regroup and come back and beat West Ham in two weeks time.
"West Ham was always going to be a big game and I'm looking forward to it."
Meanwhile, the Wolves boss has defended the discipline of his side after Karl Henry was sent off in the early stages of the loss to the Latics following a late challenge on Jordi Gomez.
McCarthy added: ""It might seem ridiculous for me to stand here and say we haven't had any problems with discipline when we've just had a player sent off.
"But I do feel that some of the bookings we've had - including on Saturday - were soft.
"And I've seen other players who haven't been booked for similar.
"There's no problem with discipline at the place.
"If you spoke to people who knew the lads they would tell you they are one of the best bunch of lads you could have.
"That just isn't us, and it was just a bad decision from Karl.
"The place is fantastic and they are a great bunch of players.
"The attitude shown by the lads week-in week-out is brilliant as was shown by how we did with the ten men.
"Of course we need a different outcome on the pitch but to change the approach would be wrong because we've played well and did well on Saturday even with ten men.
"The club and the attitude within the place is fantastic."
