McDonald boost for Wolves

Wolves welcome back Kevin McDonald as they aim for some Boxing Day cheer at home to Crewe.

The midfielder missed Saturday's thrilling 3-3 draw at Rotherham due to a one-match suspension, a result which extended promotion-chasing Wanderers' winless streak to three matches.

Right-back Matt Doherty (hamstring) and striker Jake Cassidy (swollen glands) will both be assessed to see whether they are fit to feature.

Twelve-goal leading scorer Leigh Griffiths was dropped to the bench at the weekend in favour of Bjorn Sigurdarson and the Scotland international will be targeting a recall.

Defender Adam Dugdale has been ruled out for Crewe and will undergo a brain scan after being knocked unconscious at the weekend.

The 26-year-old went straight to hospital after suffering from concussion early on in the 2-2 draw with Shrewsbury and has been told he will not be allowed to take part in contact training for five days with Mark Ellis pencilled in to fill his void.

Neither striker Mathias Pogba (knee) or teenage winger Ryan Colclough (stomach) will play any part, despite initial hopes they perhaps could.

And long-term injuries to Neil Etheridge (thigh) and Steve Phillips (shoulder) mean Ben Garratt is likely to continue in goal, while striker Max Clayton (ankle) and defender Ollie Turton (knee) are missing again.
