Jason is 24 years of age, 25 in September and he is a left-footed centre-back, who started out at Norwich as a trainee and progressed through the academy. He has made over 100 appearances for Norwich, with scoring a total 3 goals for Norwich In the 2004/05 season he played 11 games at Premiership level and has only managed to cement himself into the first team squad until the 2006/07 season.
Wolves sign Shackell for an undisclosed fee, but it is rumoured that he has come to Wolves for an estimated fee of £1m to £1.5m.
I watched the full match again, from when we played Norwich last season and Jason Shackell played. He looked like a player who keeps the players spirits up and is a good leader. He was captain in this game and his performance was good, until he got sent off for a horrible challenge on Karl Henry. Yes it was a sending off, but he was a bit unlucky as he got the ball, lost control and was trying to get it back before it went to a Wolves player, but he rushed into a challenge and scraped the leg of Henry with his studs.
Jason told the official Wolves website and said "I'm very excited,"
"Wolves are a massive club with great facilities and a good, young squad and I'm delighted to be a part of it.
"I made my way up here at the weekend to meet a few of the guys and I'm really pleased to have signed this afternoon.
"I didn't get to see the game at the weekend but I watched the highlights and the lads are certainly on fire at the moment.
"It was a great result because Forest are a good team and there are no easy games in this division.
"So to win a game 5-1 is some going and a great result."
As a result he admits he is sad to be leaving but also relishing an exciting new opportunity with Wolves' in-form team.
"I'd come through the Academy at Norwich and have been there for eight years," he says.
"As much as I definitely loved my time there it is also the right time to move on.
"I'm leaving behind some good people and a lot of friends but to have the opportunity to move to a club like Wolves is one I'm really looking forward to.
"Wolves are clearly a big club with great facilities.
"The stadium and the training ground here are superb and the pitch is in great condition.
"I just can't wait to get to work."
Here are some questions that I asked the Norwich Mad to reply to, about Jason Shackell as a Player and how he did for them.
So how was he at Norwich?
Dependable. He was thrust into the limelight surprisingly quickly in the Premier League when we sold Malky Mackay, but he took the step up in his stride and was never embarrassed at the top level. There is more to come from him.
Are you sad to see him leave Norwich?
Yes and no. He's a player who graduated from our Academy and it's never good to see them leave, but he isn't in the side at the moment, with Dejan Stefanovic and John Kennedy doing a great job in central defence, and the money is likely to be reasonable. Yes, we're down the table but the problems are in attack not defence. My main gripe would be that Stefanovic is old and Kennedy only on loan, so a relative youngster with ties to the club would be a good thing to have. Having said that, he could probably do with a challenge.
Any previous injuries we should be worried about?
He has had the odd knock but I can't think of anything major.
Did you see the best of him at Norwich?
I honestly don't think so. He can definitely improve and I think is probably the sort of player who excels at a higher level.
Norwich Career High?
The whole season in the Premier League, including keeping a clean sheet against Man U in a 2-0 win
Norwich Career Low?
For me, his stint at left back in one of his first games for the club away at Crystal Palace. He looked so poor and got taken apart by Wayne Routledge, but he was playing out of position and everything he did subsequently was an upward curve. His red card at Molineux last season wasn't his finest hour, mind.
Any nicknames?
Shacks. Not very creative I know.
Any funny anecdotes?
None that I can think of.
Anything else you want to add?
I think I've covered most things. I think he's a good signing for Wolves and, disregarding the feeling between Wolves and Norwich, I think it's an excellent sign for your club that you are attracting players from rival clubs, which you seem to be doing consistently. I don't think Shackell will be the difference between the play-offs and automatic, just as losing him won't damage us too badly, but I do think you've bagged yourselves a good 'un.
