"Darren is here and he is having scans," McCarthy told the club's official website.
"He is a talented player and we are hoping to wrap up a loan deal pretty soon.
"I watched him last year at Southampton and he impressed me.
"He is a modern day centre midfielder. He is young and hungry and we are happy to see him here at Wolves."
