McCarthy came under fire from some fans after the home draw against Swansea, to which he responded by labelling his critics "mindless idiots". Wolves have picked up only one point from the last seven games, but McCarthy is confident club owner Steve Morgan and chief executive Jez Moxey continue to trust him - in the same way Latics boss Roberto Martinez enjoys the support of chairman Dave Whelan.
"The support I have from Steve and Jez and everybody has always been at its strongest when it has been tough," said McCarthy.
"Whenever it has been tough, I've had great support. That's really great to have - and I'm sure Roberto feels the same at Wigan with the backing he gets."
McCarthy is aware Wolves have to regain the winning touch after their poor run.
He said: "We just need to win a game and Sunday is our next opportunity.
"We just need that feeling of winning games because we haven't had it for a while.
"The players are working their socks off and we try to keep the self belief up and tell them it will turn around."
