McCarthy's side came off on the wrong end of a seven-goal thriller with Manchester City despite dominating the opening half-hour and then producing a rousing comeback that came so close to snatching them a point.
The result dropped Wolves back into the bottom three, but coming after triumphs over Liverpool and Chelsea over the festive programme, it has fuelled McCarthy's belief that Wolves will retain their top-flight status.
"Of course we can stay up," he proclaimed. "Without a doubt. We will.
"We are not far away from where we were last season in terms of points and games played.
"We just had a good run, are playing well and getting players back. If we get a few more back we will be OK."
