The former Republic of Ireland manager is approaching the fifth anniversary of him taking charge at Molineux.
He led Wolves to promotion in 2009 and is trying to keep them in the top flight for a second successive season after a run of eight points from the last four games.
McCarthy said: "There were a few rumblings early on about me, like `he's taken them as far as he can' and all that rubbish.
"But I think that's a small percentage and the biggest percentage is happy with the way the club is run from top to bottom.
"They recognise it's a very stable, consistent club and there's a good spirit throughout. It's about belief, understanding, and knowing we've got good players."
