"But the last thing you want to do against United is to concede early and all three goals we let in were poor. We could have cut them out at source.
"They were also scored at three key moments, five minutes in, a minute before half-time and five minutes after half-time. That is the worst time to concede.
"At 1-0 in a Cup tie you think 'let's get to half-time rally the troops and go for it.' But the second goal really killed the tie off. It was a poor one from a defensive point of view at that stage of the half.
"That is very annoying but it has happened and we have to draw a line under that now and go for what is our main job, trying to get promotion.
"But it was good to have a taste of what we are trying to achieve. United are a quality side and you could see that in the way that they finished.
"It was a surprise to see Rooney in midfield but he has the talent to play in any position."
