The 23-year-old had a run of seven starts in Mick McCarthy's team following his switch from Barnsley in January.
Hammill admits he enjoyed his experience, and is relishing the prospect of an extended run in the first-team this time around.
"I'm looking forward to getting going this season," Hammill said. "I had a taste of it in my first six months and I can't wait to get going and try and get in the team," he said.
"I can only get better with the experience and from the games I did play I got an idea of what it's like to try and succeed in the Premier League.
"There are also another three wingers here who are top players so there's competition which is good and which is there throughout the team.
"It takes time when you come into a squad in January and you're getting to know the lads. Pre-season gives me the opportunity to get to know the lads."
