Doyle is recovering from a minor hernia operation and played in the 2-0 friendly defeat against Real Valladolid on Saturday. Now Big Mik McCarthy wants Doyle to play some part against Austrailia on Wednesdat and the Republic's management seem to agree
McCarthy said in the Birmingham Mail "I've just been ringing Liam Brady with the Republic to see whether they actually want him to play 45 minutes in their friendly in midweek, which I think would benefit them and us as well. It would be a good 45 minutes for him to have.As to whether he could start for us next week, I think that's a bit optimistic, but he could be involved. I was very pleased with him. He's busting a gut to play. I shouldn't say that really because that's probably the reason why he couldn't play because he's bust a gut with his hernia problem, but he's more than keen and eager to get on the pitch."
Republic of Ireland assistant gaffer Liam Brady said "Mick McCarthy threw us a dummy last week. He said to me to tell the manager that it was very unlikely that Doyle would be here. He had an operation and he said that there was a little infection in the wound and he wasn't going to be able to participate in their Wolves friendly match on Saturday.
"But things changed. Mick rang me on Saturday and said that Doyle would be playing and he would get half an hour and therefore he could have 45 minutes for us against Australia."
