The Wolves defender sustained a hamstring injury during the last game against Sheffield Wednesday and is hoping to have recovered in time to face the Saints at The Molineux on Saturday.
"It happened during the Sheffield Wednesday game although I wasn't aware of it at the time," he told the official Wolves website.
"I felt fine afterwards but the hamstring started to feel a bit stiff on Monday and, after treatment, I was sent for a scan which showed a slight tear.
"Having last weekend free has helped and things have improved a lot. With a bit of luck I'll be able to train on Thursday and hopefully I'll be available for the Southampton game.
"Whilst there is never a good time to pick up an injury, Jamie admitted that this one was particularly annoying.
"It's really frustrating to get something like this after being out and then getting back into the team.
"Certain things you can get away with but not an injured hamstring. I came in over the weekend and have been in early each day for treatment as well so, with a bit of luck, it will have been worthwhile and done the trick."
